Combined Medical Service Exam Syllabus 2016-2017

Medical services are an important part of government organizations.  This department is just as important as administrative affairs, revenue, engineering or any other service. Every department or functionary of the government requires medical services. In India the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which is a major recruitment agency for the government conducts Combined Medical Exam (CMS) for recruitment of medical personnel in government organization and services

The UPSC CMS Exam consists of 2 Phases. Candidates will be selected based upon their performance in the following tests :

1. Written Test.

2. Personality Test.

The UPSC Combined Medical Services Written Test consists of the following features

1. The exam is of Objective type i.e Multiple Choice Questions.
2. The exam has 2 papers which is conducted online.
3. Each paper is conducted for a total of 250 marks.
4. Each paper consists of 3 sections each.
5. There will be a negative marking for each wrong answer

Candidate must not have attained an age of 32 years.

Educational Qualification:

a) An MBBS degree from an MCI recognized university in India.
b) Applicants appearing for final year MBBS exam are also eligible to apply.
c) Qualified candidates of the written test are required to submit proof of passing the written and practical test of final MBBS exam along with their application form.

 
Paper Pattern
CMS 2016 Paper Pattern:

The candidates will take the written examination in two papers, each paper carrying a maximum of 250 marks. Each paper will be of two hours duration.

Paper I

a) General Ability - 30 questions

b) General Medicine - 70 questions

c) Paediatrics - 20 questions

Total - 120 questions

Maximum Marks - 250

Paper II

a) Surgery - 40 questions

b) Gynaecology & Obstetrics - 40 questions

c) Preventive & Social medicine - 40 questions

Total - 120 questions

Maximum Marks - 250

Personality Test - Personality Test  carrying 100 marks.

(Surgery including ENT, Opthalmology, Traumatology and Orthopaedics)

I. General Surgery: Wounds, Infections, Tumours, Lymphatic, Blood vessels, Cysts/sinuses, Head and neck, Breast, Alimentary tract - (Oesophagus, Stomach, Intestines, Anus, Developmental), Liver, Bile, Pancreas, Spleen, Peritoneum, Abdominal wall, Abdominal injuries
II. Urological Surgery
III. Neuro Surgery
IV. Otorhinolaryngology E.N.T.
V. Thoracic surgery
VI. Orthopedic surgery

(b) Gynaecology & Obstetrics (40 Questions)
