10. Patna :-


Patna is one of the oldest city of the world. In ancient time , Patna was known as the name of Patliputra. It was the capital of Magadha Empire. A king name Ajatshatru of Magadh dynasty made Patna as his capital. Many kings and dynasties like Haryanaka , Nanda , Maura , Sunga and Gupta had ruled it. It was also the place of Many scholars like Aryabhata , Ashvaghosha , Chanakya or Kautilya , Panine and Vatsyayana.

9. Panaji :-


In the 16th century , the panaji city come under the rule of Portuguese. It was the place of Adil Shahis which was turned into the residence of the Portuguese viceroy. Panaji was renamed as "Panjim" and converted in to the capital city of Portuguese in 1843. Panaji was not a part of India until 1961 when it was annexed in with other Portuguese territories.

8. Varanasi :-


Varanasi is also known as the name of Kashi and Banaras. Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. According to the legends , Varanasi's history began when Lord Shive (Hindu God) founded the city along the holy Gangas many milennia ago. In ancient time Pandavas also visited Varanasi. It is believed that till now the person who breathes his last here is sure to attain salvation.

7. Lucknow :-


Lucknow is known as the one of the ancient Indian cities. It is believed that the Lakshmna ( younger brother of hindu Lord Rama ) was the founder of this ancient city. This city is located near the Gomati river on an elevated piece of land. Then , it was called Lakshmanpur. Lucknow city was also ruled by many empires like Mughal Empire , Nawab of Awadh , Shargi Sultanate and the British raj.

6. Hyderabad :-


 Hyderabad city was ruled by many empires like Maurya Empire , Satvahana Empire and Andhra Empire. The Hyderabad state was also ruled by Nizams of Hyderabad till 1948. The Nizams of Hyderabad was ruled from 1724 to 1948. The state was dissolved in 1956 after the formation of Andhra Pradesh in country.

5. Chennai :-


The Chennai city was ruled by the popular dynasties of South India such as Pallavas , The Cholas , The Pandavas and the Vijaynagar Kingdom. When India got Independence in 1947 , the city was declared as the capital of Madras state and it is believed to be originated from Madrasapattinam. The name Madras was renamed as Tamil Nadu in 1969.

4. Bengaluru :-


Bengaluru is the one of the well known historical cities in India. The city is founded by Kempe Gowda I , of the Vijaanagar Empire. In 1537, he build a mud fort in the present city market area and its vicinity. He also build numerous lakes , temples and forts in Bengaluru. In ancient time , Bengaluru was the capital of Mysore state later it was renamed to Karnataka in 1973.

3. Kolkata :-


Kolkata is one of the most well known cities of India. As per the evidence , the origin of city was in the ruling period of Maurya and Gupta and it is also believed that the Englishman Job Charnock is the founder of Kolkata city. In the British ruling time Kolkata was the second most important city for the British people after London. Kolkata is second largest city in India after Delhi.

2. Delhi :-


Delhi is the most popular and oldest city of the world. It is said that city is formed around 1450 BC. Pandavas also used this place to live here. In ancient time , Delhi was known as the name of Indraprastha. The name is given by the Pandavas during 3500 BC. Delhi has been destroyed and recreated seven times.

The city consist of seven islands - Calaba , Mazagaon , Old women's islands , Wadala , Mahim , Parel and Matunga - Sion. In 1845 , the seven islands of Bombay had been joined into one biggest islands. It reduce the travel time between London and Bombay. Some time ago Mumbai is known as the Bombay. In 1995 , the city changed its name to Mumbai.
