Patna is one of the oldest city of the world. In ancient time , Patna was known as the name of Patliputra. It was the capital of Magadha Empire. A king name Ajatshatru of Magadh dynasty made Patna as his capital. Many kings and dynasties like Haryanaka , Nanda , Maura , Sunga and Gupta had ruled it. It was also the place of Many scholars like Aryabhata , Ashvaghosha , Chanakya or Kautilya , Panine and Vatsyayana.

In the 16th century , the panaji city come under the rule of Portuguese. It was the place of Adil Shahis which was turned into the residence of the Portuguese viceroy.
