How to Work Offline in Google Chrome

When you open any page in the google chrome browser, it fetches the new version of page from the server after connected to the internet and displays on your screen. If you are offline from your computer that means there is no internet connection. Chrome will display a error page saying that unable to connect to the internet with a dinosaur image. Actually this not an images its a game provided by the google chrome whenever your internet goes out, you can play this game.

Internet explorer and mozilla firefox offers an offline mode that saves a copy of webpage automatically as you browse in your browser it displays a local copy of related to your search, when your system is not connected to the internet. If you are offline in flight, you can still open and read websites that you before when your system was connected to internet. The recent versions of google chrome also supports offline browsing with a new option by which you can access the cache version of any webpage is hidden deep inside the settings.

Inside chrome , type chrome://flags/ to access the experimental features page and search for the "Enable Offline Load Stale Button" option. Just click on enable against the option and restart your browser.

Now you are offline, You chrome browser will give you an option to load the stale copy, if the webpage you are trying to open is available in the local cache.

Google chrome caches HTML content, images, javascript and the CSS stylesheets added with a page so your offline copy should not look very different from the original.  If there are some resources which need an active internet connection like JAVA Script widget or videos, They will be replaced with placeholder images.

If you want to test the feature, open any page inside the chrome, turn off your Wi-Fi or disconnect the ethernet cable and restart the browser. If the offline mode is enabled, the cached version would show up on your screen.

The offline browsing was added in the 36v of the chrome browser. If you are still using an older version of this browser, you need to update your google chrome browser to enable the option that says Enable offline Mode. If the page you are trying to open is available in the local cache, The webpage will no longer to show you the error “unable connected to the Internet”
