How to Find Your Mac's Basic Specifications in OS X

It can be difficult to remember which MacBook model you have, Apple dowsn't give them very separate names. Do you still have a Mid 2010 or Early 2011 machine? What type of processor do you have? Is it really possible to upgrade your RAM?

Mac's Basic Specifications in OS X

Processor, Memory and Operating System
Fortunately finding your Mac's basic specification in OS X is very simple. Here is how to find your MAC's basic specification, Just click on the Apple icon in the top left-corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu, click about this MAC to open the system Information Window.
After opening the system information window will show you an overview of your system, including what versions of OS X you are running, your operating system, your processor, your Installed RAM, graphics and your serial number.
For more details on your memory, click on the memory tab. Here you will see how many memory slots have you in your system and how many are in use and what are size of RAM stick in every slots?

Graphics Card
To know about your system graphics card, just look at your system information overview. It will show the list of the graphics card, click on the system report.....in the lower left corner of the system information overview screen. A new window will pop-up with an overview of your Mac's installed hardware.
In new pop up window, under hardware, Click Graphics/Displays. Here you'll be able to see more info about your graphic card, including how much dedicated memory it has. You will also be able to see info about your display, resolution and pixel density of the display.
Storage
If you want to find out what type of storage you have, clcik on the storage tab to in system information window. On the left side of the screen, you'll see a visual representation of your drivers, you'll see information about each drive on the right side of the screen.
You'll see a colorful bar for hard drive and solid state drives that breaks down the storage usage by the file type music, movies, apps, photos, and other. A number will indicate on top of this bar, how much space you have on that drive.

For media drives, such as Blu-ray disc writers, you will see a list of disc formats that the drive is capable of writing.
