There are so many states and cities in India that are over crowded. People are going there from villages and small towns, they are going there in search of food and jobs. There are not so much jobs in small villages and small towns so to finding a job they come to cities and the cities become overcrowded. There are too many Most Populated Indian Cities according to research. Here we are giving you the List of Top 10 Most Populated Indian Cities 2016. The list is based on Census of India, 2011. In every ten years the Ministry of Home Affairs (India) calculates the population of India. So here is the List of Largest Cities In India By Population 2016 :-

10. Jaipur :-

In 2011 :- 3,046,163 (30 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 2,322,575 (23 Lakh)

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. It is at 10th place in Most Populated Indian Cities List 2016. You can see the increment in the population. In 2001 the population of Jaipur City was 23 Lakh (2.3 Million) which increased in 2011. In 2011 the population of the city became around 30 Lakh (3 Million). 

9. Pune :- 

In 2011 :- 3,124,458 (31 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 2,538,473 (25 Lakh)

Pune is a city in Maharashtra. Here people comes in search of jobs every year. The population is increasing year after year. You can see clearly that the population of Pune in 2001 was around 25 Lakh (2.5 Million) that increased in 2011. In 2011 the population of this city reached around 31 Lakh (3.1 Million). This increment makes Pune the 9th most populated city in the list of Top 10 Largest Cities In India By Population.

8. Surat :-

In 2011 :- 4,467,797 (44 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 2,433,835 (24 Lakh)

Surat is in Gujarat. The population of Surat is increasing with a very high speed. You can see the speed of increment in the population of Surat City. In 2001 the population was around 24 Lakh (2.4 Million) and after 10 Years the population reached almost of it's double. This increment adds the name of the city in this list.   

7. Kolkata :-

In 2011 :- 4,496,694 (44 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 4,572,876 (45 Lakh)

Kolkata is the only city in the list in which the population decreased by almost 1 Lakh in 10 years. The population of the city in 2001 was around 45 Lakh (4.5 Million) that became less in 2011 with the population of around 44 Lakh (4.4 Million). But the population of this city is higher than the most of the cities in India that's why the name of this city is in the list. 

6. Ahmedabad :-

In 2011 :- 5,577,940 (55 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 3,520,085 (35 Lakh)

Ahmedabad is the city in Gujarat where the population was around 35 Lakh (3.5 Million) in 2001 that was increased in 2011 and reached around 55 Lakh (5.5 Million). This increment and the current population take the name of the city in the list of Most Populated Indian Cities. 

5. Chennai :-

In 2011 :- 6,727,000 (67 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 4,343,645 (43 Lakh)

Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu. Here are lots of people working for their lives and every year lots of people come here in search of job that's why the population of this city is increasing with a high speed. In 2001 the population of Chennai was around 43 Lakh (4.3 Million) and till the year 2011 it became around 67 Lakh (6.7 Million). 

4. Hyderabad :-

In 2011 :- 6,731,790 (67 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 3,637,483 (36 Lakh)

Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana. Telangana is a southern state. Hyderabad is famous for the Charminar. The population of Hyderabad was around 36 Lakh(3.6 Million) in 2001 and in 2011 it reached around 67 Lakhs (6.7 Million). The Hyderabad city is at no. 4 in the Largest Cities In India By Population List 2016.

3. Bangalore :-

In 2011 :- 8,443,675 (84 Lakh)

In 2001 :- 4,301,326 (43 Lakh)

Bangalore is the capital of India's Southern State Karnataka. It is well known for it's night life and beauty. There is so much green spaces in that city. It is also one of the high tech cities in India. The Population of Bangalore in 2001 was around 43 Lakh (4.3 Million) that increased in 2011 with almost double speed, 84 Lakh (8.4 Million). 

2. Delhi :-

In 2011 :- 11,034,555 (1.1 Crore )

In 2001 :- 9,879,172 (98 Lakh)

Delhi is the Capital of our Country India. It is the centre of our country. It is an Industrial area. That's why there are lots of jobs available. People come here in a very large number. The population of the capital of our country was around  98 Lakh (9.8 Million) in 2001, in 2011 it reached a magical number of 1.1 Crore (11 Million). It's the center of the country that's why people come here and increases the population of the city. Delhi is at no. 2nd in the this list.

1. Mumbai :-

In 2011 :- 12,442,373 (1.2 Crore)

In 2001 :- 11,978,450 (1.1 Crore)

Mumbai is the Capital of Maharashtra. It is also an Industrial city like Delhi, the population is increasing every year of this city. The population was around 1.1 Crore (11 Million) in 2001 that became 1.2 Crore (12 Million) in 2011. It is the Most Populated City in India that's make it no. 1 in the population list.
